Charlotte sedation dentists make dental work painless

Twilight Dentistry
Pain free and dentist may sound mutually exclusive.  Charlotte sedation dentists, however, are making believers of their dental patients.  Sleep dentistry, twilight dentistry and sedation dentistry are commonly used terms that describe the techniques used by Charlotte’s most gentle dentists.  Although the name may imply otherwise, Charlotte patients are not put to sleep during sedation dentistry.  Rather, by using safe, prescribed medication, these patients are made less anxious and more comfortable during dental procedures.
Charlotte’s sedation dentists have special training and licenses to practice sedation dentistry.  These gentle dentists will take your medical history and inquire about medications you are currently taking.  The most common class of drugs used for sedation dentistry is benzodiazepine.  With many options, available however, your Charlotte dentist can prescribe and administer the most appropriate sedation medication for you.  Medications can be taken orally, in the form of a pill, or through IV.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Sleep dentistry is a misnomer, because the patient does not actually sleep during the procedure.  In fact, patients are awake and able to respond to the dental team.  Charlotte dental patients can rest assured that during their twilight dentistry experience, their vital signs and overall condition will be closely monitored by their sedation dentist.  Charlotte’s gentle dentists respect and understand the different levels of fear and anxiety that patients experience.  It is important to fully discuss your apprehension and anxiety with your sedation dentist to allow him or her to meet your needs.

Are porcelain veneers a good option for me in Charlotte?

Dental Veneers
Porcelain veneers are without a doubt one of the greatest developments yet for those who have longed to have the perfect smile in Charlotte. Though many methods for cosmetically enhancing or repairing damaged or unsightly teeth have evolved over the decades, the introduction of teeth veneers, or dental veneers, to the Charlotte cosmetic dentist’s arsenal has made the process of improving a person’s smile easier, far more comfortable for the patient and much less time-consuming. Porcelain veneers have come to the forefront in the quest for dazzling white teeth and a truly attractive smile.

One of the most often-used means of improving the appearance of broken, chipped, stained or badly decayed teeth has been to cover the unsightly teeth with eye-pleasing crowns, which are cemented to the damaged teeth, usually covering them completely. The crowns are perfectly shaped and perfectly colored, and make for a stunningly beautiful smile. They are also quite strong and stain-resistant, and allow the recipient to enjoy the foods and drinks he or she consumed before the crowns were installed.

Installing crowns normally involves physically reshaping the teeth, quite often entailing the removal of some healthy tooth material along with the bad in order to leave the perfect nub that will accept the crown. An advantage of having crowns made is that crowns allow for major reshaping of damaged or malformed teeth. Once a tooth has been reshaped to accept a crown, however, it will always require a crown. There is no going back once tooth material has been removed. A point to keep in mind is that as the patient’s gums naturally recede with age, a visible line may appear where the original crown once met the gum line. In some cases, an individual may then be faced with the expense of having a new set of crowns made.
With dental veneers, only minor reshaping of damaged teeth is possible, but if major reshaping is not required, the advantages of dental veneers are many. First off (and most importantly, for many people), there is little to no tooth restructuring involved. This means, in nearly all cases, no anesthetic, no pain or discomfort whatsoever, no post-procedure sensitivity or recuperation time and no prolonged schedule of visits.

There are different types of teeth veneers, also called porcelain veneers, some of them consisting of a composite resin that is applied to the outsides of the affected teeth. These composite resin dental veneers are very strong, and have the advantage of quite often requiring only one visit to the Charlotte cosmetic dentist. This type of dental veneer also allows for some reshaping of a tooth, since a thin layer of material is added to the natural tooth’s surface. It does not allow for as much reshaping as does the crown, however.

One disadvantage of composite resin dental veneers is that over time they may become less resistant to staining. They may also be subject to cracking and breaking over time, particularly if the recipient grinds his or her teeth. Porcelain veneers, which are made of a highly advanced, glasslike ceramic, have the advantages of being extremely durable – more so than composite resin dental veneers – and of being exceptionally resistant to staining because of their glasslike quality. They are, in fact, nearly translucent, making them far more suited to retaining a natural tooth color while allowing faults and blemishes to be concealed. Porcelain veneers are applied to the outer surfaces of the teeth, just like composite resin dental veneers, but in extremely thin layers. Porcelain veneers may only have a thickness of one millimeter! This means porcelain veneers can be applied without noticeably affecting the size of the teeth, yet they can be applied in slightly thicker layers if minor reshaping is required.

The decision on what type cosmetic procedure to have can only be made after consulting with your local Charlotte cosmetic dentist. Your Charlotte cosmetic dentist can fully explain the pros and cons of porcelain veneers and other procedures, and talk you through each process. If your teeth do not require major restructuring in order for you to have the smile you want, you may well find yourself among the growing number of people in Charlotte North Carolina who opt for porcelain veneers.

Laser teeth whitening by Charlotte’s cosmetic dentists uses the power of light on your smile

Charlotte’s residents have always been known as a friendly sort of folk.  With wide smiles, they greet one another and visitors to our beautiful city.  Be sure your smile is the brightest and whitest it can be.  A trip to your Charlotte cosmetic dentist can lighten your smile in a matter of a few short sessions.  Through the power of laser teeth whitening available from Charlotte’s cosmetic dentists, our city is full of even bigger and brighter smiles than before.  Charlotte’s residents can’t help showing off their whitened, youthful looking smiles and recommending the procedure to friends and neighbors.  Charlotte’s cosmetic dental offices are becoming popular destinations for anyone looking for an enhanced, healthier looking smile.  How are lasers making this possible?
Actually, they’re not.  Laser teeth whitening is a misleading term but one that has been popularized in the press.  The actual procedure used involves LED, or light-emitting diodes.  Like lasers, LED harnesses the power of light energy for powerful applications.  Charlotte’s specially trained and experienced cosmetic dentists have used LED technology with positive results for many years.  They know that this powerful technology can brighten and whiten teeth effectively and painlessly.  The secret behind Charlotte residents’ bright, white smiles is often LED treatment.
Teeth can become discolored for many reasons.  As we age, the composition of our teeth may change.  With the change in the mineral composition of the teeth comes a change in the color.  Changes to enamel or side effects from medication can cause tooth discoloration as well.  Tooth enamel has millions of tiny pores.  With time, chemicals from food, drink and tobacco can penetrate through these pores and stain the dentine layer of the tooth.  An effective tooth whitening procedure must reach this layer. Over-the-counter products cannot replace the knowledge, expertise and experience of Charlotte’s trusted, trained and informed cosmetic dentists.
LED technology allows Charlotte’s cosmetic dentists to force more oxygen through the pores and down to the dentine layer.  Oxygen is able to break down the stains on the teeth quickly and effectively.  Dramatic changes in the shades of teeth after an LED treatment session are evident.  Charlotte residents are pleased with the noticeable results.

Tooth whitening using LED technology is safe and painless.  For patients who are nervous about dental procedures, Charlotte’s cosmetic dentists are also trained and licensed as sedation dentists.  Using prescription medications, Charlotte’s cosmetic dentists can make their patients more comfortable and relaxed during the procedure if needed.

Does laser dentistry really make it less scary at my Charlotte dentist

Laser dentistry offers patients an alternative to traditional drill technique dentistry.   Charlotte dentists use laser dentistry to perform procedures that are safe and more comfortable than traditional dentistry.

Charlotte residents need not fear trips to the dentist. Painful dental procedures are a ghost of the past. Laser dentistry performed by trained, established Charlotte cosmetic dentists provides an alternative to traditional drill technique dentistry.  Rather than hearing the whine of the drill, dental patients are able to relax as the silent laser is used to work on specific dental problems.  Patients report less anxiety as the dentist works.  No wonder laser dentistry is an expanding field with a growing fan base!

Charlotte cosmetic dentists use the FDA approved dental lasers to work in a specific area of the patient’s mouth.  Surrounding tissue is far less likely to be bruised or damaged when a laser is used.  The dentist is able to work with less struggle with the instrument. Rather, the laser is held much like a pen and the light does the work.  Dental lasers can be used on gums or teeth and help reduce the need for cutting into soft tissue.  Because lasers cauterize as they go, the need for stitches can also be reduced or eliminated.  In addition, bleeding is minimized when lasers are used.  The possibility of infection is also reduced as the laser sterilizes the area of dental work.

Laser dentistry is used for a variety of dental procedures.  Dentists using lasers are often able to spot tooth decay and cavities sooner than before.  Biopsies can be done with dental lasers to detect oral cancers or growths.  Previously dreaded procedures, such as root canals, can be made more comfortable with the use of dental lasers which can work on teeth and gums.  Charlotte dentists are finding lasers to be a valuable tool as they work with their patients.
You may have also heard of laser teeth whitening.  While lasers where once used to activate the ingredient in the teeth whitening chemical, Charlotte’s cosmetic dentists now use LED lighting to help whiten your teeth.

See what dental lasers can do for you.  Conquer those dental fears once and for all and contact your Charlotte cosmetic dentist today.
