Dental crowns, also known as dental caps or teeth crowns, are the solution to dental problems such as severe discoloration, crowding and crookedness. Cosmetic dentists have long been using a tried and tested solution of covering teeth with dental crowns to solve these problems. But how do you know what kind of dental crowns should you get for yourself? - Porcelain fused to metal. Dental crowns can be matched to the color of one’s teeth. If you are looking for a dental crown that looks like your other teeth, porcelain fused to metal is as close as you can get, outside of using all-ceramic dental crowns.
- Resin. Resin dental crowns are less expensive than other types of dental crowns but they do not last as long because they tend to wear down over time.
- Ceramic or porcelain. If you have metal allergies, your cosmetic dentist will often recommend using an all-ceramic or all-porcelain crown. They are not quite as strong as other types of crowns, but they look the most natural and usually placed on the front teeth.
- Metal. Gold alloy, other alloys, or even base-metal alloy are all used for crowns. Metal dental crowns have the longest lifespan, however many people do not like the metallic color. Cosmetic dentists recommend metal crowns for back molars.
